Happy birthday!

Today is Poochie's birthday! She is one year old!

I gave her special meal with banana, carrot, celery.

Her wound is still hearing. I had to take of the bandage since it was wrinkled up and bothering her skin.

You can still she her incision.

5th day

She is doing good not removing bandage anymore. This pictures shows new bandage we got yesterday. It's smaller and more comfortable.
She is in her travel cage since yesterday. It's almost a half size of her large cage. This worked good since she does not act crazy so much compared to her own regular large territory.

But her bad old habit, tearing newspapers and pooing all over came back already (since yesterday). As for peeing outside, there are a couple of mistakes but less Thant before surgery.
She eat pellets much faster now.

4th day

In the morning, I checked stitches. They are all gone except the bottom one.
There is no blood, but i can see cut is open slightly.

We called the vet and asked advice. Doctor's not available but receptionist (possibly vet tech) told us that as long as the inner incision is intact, it's fine.

I Googled all over, and found that we better use bandage around her to prevent her to make more damage.
At first, we used several band aids and a wide bandage but Poochie went crazy and try to remove it so badly.

So, we had to remove it all and ran to drag store. We got disinfect alcohol and ointment, self sticking bandage and gauze pad.

It went well. Poochie is still trying to remove it, so we moved her to a smaller cage, which we have used for vacation. By placing her in unfamiliar location, she become distracted and not paying attention to the bandage anymore.

She is eating better.

The first attempt of bandage. Before shooting this picture, she was struggling and running around too much and tired now.

3rd day

Poochie is getting better. She still insists eating only carrot tops, but she munched some hay.

I checked the stitches at night and somehow 3 of 5 stitches are gone! I think she pulled them out.
But since the skin is still intact so we just will watch it.

She is more relaxed now and able to lay down. Also, started pooing more.

2nd Day

She ate some hay and carrot tops, and her weight is dropped to 2lb 5.5oz. She weighed 2lb 8.5 before.

She is still in pain and poo is not coming out. So we did some research and found out we need pain killer. So my husband called and vet and drove to vet to get a pain killer, metacam.

It was in a bottle like eye drops. We tried to use syringe that comes with it, but too small amount and did not work. We just dropped 2 drops on carrot leaves and Poochie ate it.

She is getting better and producing some poo although the shape is very strange and small.

Spay surgery

Poochie is now almost 1 year old.
It is time to get spayed which we knew we should but still very afraid of.
Our first bun died during neuter surgery.

We've been looking for a low cost, experienced vet for many months.
We found one finally and it is about 45 min away, and went to checkup first.

We requested a blood test, which was our choice, but they could not draw blood from Poochie because her vein is too small and she struggled like mad.

We went back to the local vet and she was able to do it for us!
It was extra money ($70) but worth it.
After 2 days, we got result and the local vet told us Poochie is good to go.

Today, we dropped off Poochie at our new vet in 8:30.
We waited in a cafe nearby since we wanted to close to Poochie in case something happened.

Around 10 PM, the doctor called and told us that Poochie is fine and awake. It was a relief!

When we picked her up one hour later, Poochie looked ok...
The doctor said pain medication may not be needed since the pain med she gave her would work 2 days. So we took the word for it and did not ask for pain killer. It was a mistake.

At home, Poochie jumped out from her carrier and into the cage (before even stopping her) and she did not eat or move for a long time. She tried to go to the litter box and she seems like having hard time to move her hind legs and her body.
She was obviously in pain. I tried to give her pellets, veggies (her favorites), hays, treats but she did not take anything for several hours. She just drank a little water from a bowl.

Late night, she finally ate 2 carrot tops.

We stayed up most of the night to watch her.

She is in pain after surgery..

Checked the wound. There are 5 stitches.
