2nd Day

She ate some hay and carrot tops, and her weight is dropped to 2lb 5.5oz. She weighed 2lb 8.5 before.

She is still in pain and poo is not coming out. So we did some research and found out we need pain killer. So my husband called and vet and drove to vet to get a pain killer, metacam.

It was in a bottle like eye drops. We tried to use syringe that comes with it, but too small amount and did not work. We just dropped 2 drops on carrot leaves and Poochie ate it.

She is getting better and producing some poo although the shape is very strange and small.

Spay surgery

Poochie is now almost 1 year old.
It is time to get spayed which we knew we should but still very afraid of.
Our first bun died during neuter surgery.

We've been looking for a low cost, experienced vet for many months.
We found one finally and it is about 45 min away, and went to checkup first.

We requested a blood test, which was our choice, but they could not draw blood from Poochie because her vein is too small and she struggled like mad.

We went back to the local vet and she was able to do it for us!
It was extra money ($70) but worth it.
After 2 days, we got result and the local vet told us Poochie is good to go.

Today, we dropped off Poochie at our new vet in 8:30.
We waited in a cafe nearby since we wanted to close to Poochie in case something happened.

Around 10 PM, the doctor called and told us that Poochie is fine and awake. It was a relief!

When we picked her up one hour later, Poochie looked ok...
The doctor said pain medication may not be needed since the pain med she gave her would work 2 days. So we took the word for it and did not ask for pain killer. It was a mistake.

At home, Poochie jumped out from her carrier and into the cage (before even stopping her) and she did not eat or move for a long time. She tried to go to the litter box and she seems like having hard time to move her hind legs and her body.
She was obviously in pain. I tried to give her pellets, veggies (her favorites), hays, treats but she did not take anything for several hours. She just drank a little water from a bowl.

Late night, she finally ate 2 carrot tops.

We stayed up most of the night to watch her.

She is in pain after surgery..

Checked the wound. There are 5 stitches.

Playful rabbit

Mmmm... feels good!

I love this tunnel!

Munching hay in the tissue paper box

Is there anything for me?

Gimme!!!

Today's weight: 1.70

Her weight is not increasing for several days, and it worries me .
I got her local meadow hays (only 2.99 and very fresh!) the other day, but it seems like she likes timothy hay better.
It's good thing considering timothy hay is more ideal for rabbit.

Yesterday, the vet checked Poochie again and confirmed lice are gone!
But she is scratching herself often, so we keep watching her.

Today, she was very playful. When she saw me calling her, she jumped out from the cage and
climb up my knee and gave me kisses.

I have a tunnel made from IKEA plastic bag storage ($1). She enjoys it.
I took a lots of picture but it's hard to take good picture when Poochie is moving around.
Her eyes are really red in flash or even daylight. I have to Photoshop it using a red eye reduction tool but sometimes it does not work since her eyes are even yellow sometimes!

Lost weight?

Today's weight: 1.40

Poochie lost her weight slightly. I am worried because she should be gaining weight since she is a young rabbit and considering she has parasites.

She is eating fine but a little less hay.
I gave her a little bit of oats and tiny amount of banana. She likes them.
We don't have any good vegetables now, I tried to give her carrot but she did not like it at all.
She ate a little bit of Napa cabbage too and she was OK with it.

This morning, I brought her feces to vet but I was told that it can be done next week when we visit to checkup on her skin. They did not take the poops I collected... When I asked last time, they said that I can bring feces in 10 days..

Eimeria

In the last vet visit, we brought Poochie's stool samples and the vet sent them to a lab.

Last Friday, the vet called to tell us that they found parasites called Eimeria.
It lives in the intestine of rabbit.

I was baffled because this is the second problem we found about this bun.
See, we bought the Poochie from a rabbit breeder and I thought that it's more safer and we can find healthy rabbits.
After the sad experience with the last rabbit we had, we went extra miles to find breeder to get rabbit. But after all, breeders not always perfect.
I will write about our late rabbit stories some day.

Anyways, the vet gave us a medicine that should be given twice a day using syringe.

I hold Poochie and push a tiny syringe tip into her mouth, but she hates it....

Now, we have to clean her cage and litter box (which she uses as only her bed) thoroughly with hot water.
After much research on the Internet, I figured that we should clean the cage and accessories using hot water to kill the bugger.

There are not much information on the Internet about how to clean up and how often we should disinfect cages.

First vet visit

Today, we went to the Vet with Poochie.
This is the initial checkup and we asked questions about her head turning.
The vet said Poochie does not have wry neck and it may be caused by stress.
We noticed Poochie does not do the movement so often anymore so it's good news.

But she found rabbit lice on her... the vet applied medicine and we had have to clean the cage when we went home. We washed everything in bath tub and scrubbed well.
It was a lot of work!
